Basel Will Soon Be Getting Three New Dog Playgrounds

Basel is already home to two dog parks—in the Merkur facility next to the Congress Center and in Horburg—where you and your four-legged friend can enjoy some playtime with other dogs and their owners, off leash. The demand for more dog playgrounds has been expressed several times in the Great Council and is now being addressed. Starting in early September, there should be three new dog playgrounds in Basel—at St. Galler-Ring, Schützengraben, and Holbeinplatz. Areas with a 1.20 meter (4-feet) high fence and a self-closing door are planned. In addition, seating and waste bins with dog waste bags will also be available there. According to an evaluation by the Statistical Office, around 6,000 dogs lived in canton Basel-Stadt as of April 1, 2023. The Building and Transport Department states that they are currently evaluating additional dog-playground locations for the year 2024.
