Bicycle Classes for Adult Beginners

If you would like to enjoy cycling and gain a bit of freedom and independence to get around in this bike-friendly city, the organization Gsünder Basel, together with ProVelo Beider Basel, is offering several courses for adults who have never learned to ride a bicycle. In a safe environment, participants will learn the balance and coordination needed for riding and turning, as well as road safety. These classes will be taught in High German, so they are particularly suitable for foreigners. You can bring your own bicycle and helmet, or you can borrow them on site. The classes take place at the Allschwiler Weiher (Allschwil) and include five weekly sessions of 2 hours each on either a Monday, or Tuesday evening from 18:00–20:00. The total cost is CHF 65, which includes a catered snack break. Courses will start at the end of April or at the beginning of May, but you should register now before they fill up.

If you already know how to ride a bike but it has been a while and you would like a refresher class and learn to ride safely on the streets of Basel, consider the “Velofahrkurs–Sicher auf dem Velo.” This class will only be three lessons at Allschwiler Weiher from 18:00–20:00 on Mondays or Tuesdays starting on June 6 and June 12, respectively. You will need your own bike and helmet and the class will be held in High German. Cost is CHF 39.

For both classes you can register via the website below. Click on the class you are interested in, and then on “Jetzt anmelden” at the top. For further information, you can also contact them at info@gsuenderbasel.ch or phone at 061-551-0120.
