Blues Festival Basel

April 17-21

The Blues Festival Basel will once again be taking place in the Spring! Considered one of the most important events of its kind in Europe, Blues Festival Basel presents international stars as well as talent from the local blues scene at the Volkshaus in Kleinbasel. This fabulous venue for this style of music offers round-table seating in the front section, regular seating in the middle, and a standing area by the bar where drinks can be enjoyed throughout the concerts. With the exception of the Promo Blues Night on Wednesday, each evening concert will be a double-header.

This year’s festival opens on Wednesday evening, April 17, 2024, with the popular and traditional Promo Blues Night. On this evening, the three bands that won the “Qualifiers 2023 by Blues Festival Basel” will open the Basel festival with a free evening of great regional blues.

Thursday’s European Blues Evening is all about “Good Neighbors,” which will feature the Michael Oertel Band from southern Baden (Germany) and the French band, Manu Lanvin & The Devil Blues. Friday evening is the “Swiss Gala Blues” with the blues sorcerer Bluedög Featuring Phipu Gerber, who needs to be seen, heard, and felt, and the Lucky Wüthrich band. On Saturday evening, entitled “Blues of the Americas,” the queen of Latin Blues, Vanesa Harbek will be followed by the fearless Cash Box Kings, who are full of Chicago Blues, fervent vocals, and soaring harmonica. This year, the Sunday morning All-Star Blues Brunch will be brimming with “Lady Bluespower.” Starting at 10:00, the award-winning Nigerian afro, funk, soul, and blues artist, songwriter, and entertainer Justina Lee Brown will whet your appetite. Last but not least, modern blues artist and fixture on the Swiss music scene, Manu Hartmann, will close the 2024 edition of Blues Festival Basel.

With the themes and artists varying for each of the five days, there will be plenty of great blues to entertain the most die-hard fans. Check out our calendar page for dates and details of the individual concerts.
