Christmas Lights Display in the Courtyard of the Basel Rathaus

Basel’s Rathaus (town hall) is one of the city’s most famous landmarks. Hundreds of tourists admire the historical paintings on its exterior façade and in the inner courtyard every day. During the Advent season this year, a play of lights will once again illuminate the inner courtyard façade as darkness falls.  The Christmas lights display animates the historical paintings and creates a contemplative atmosphere. A special feature this year is that part of the electricity required can be generated by the visitors themselves—using bicycles specially set up for this occasion—with exciting effects on the projection.

This year’s light show, which was created by the agency “Kollektiv Verpackungsbeilage” from Basel, will be turned on from 17:00-22:00 each evening and will be shown until Saturday, December 23.
