Don’t Forget Your New Highway Toll Stickers

If you are a driver in Switzerland using the motorways, don’t forget to replace your purple 2022 “Autobahn Vignette” (toll sticker) with the new 2023 Vignette by the end of January at the latest! This year’s edition of the sticker is yellow, with the year printed in red on one side and white on the other side. It costs CHF 40; is available at post offices, gas stations, TCS offices, and other locations; and is valid through the end of January 2024.

You must remove the old sticker and affix the new one directly to your windshield, either at the top in the middle, behind the rear-view mirror, or on the side of the windshield on the driver’s side. As they are intentionally meant to be difficult to remove, you may want to invest in a little “Vignetten Entferner” kit (blade-like tool with or without a glue-dissolving spray) to help you take the old one off. If you are caught without a valid Vignette, you can incur a fine of CHF 200 plus the cost of the new sticker that you have to purchase on site. Similar fines may be due if the Vignette is not affixed correctly. So get your new sticker now! This may be the last time, however, that you need to purchase an actual sticker—the federal administration is planning on introducing an electronic version (e-vignette) in the course of 2023.
