25 Years Saxofour / Sarah Chaksad Large Ensemble

Museum Tinguely
Saturday, 04 May
19:30

With Wolfgang Puschnig (alto saxophone) who is one of the figureheads of Austrian jazz and co-founder of the Vienna Art Orchestra; current band members Florian Bramböck (alto, tenor, and baritone saxophone) and Klaus Dickbauer (alto and baritone saxophone and bass clarinet); and Christian Maurer (soprano and tenor saxophone) who also has lots of experience in jazz and classical music, four important musicians from the Austrian jazz scene have come together to add a novel characteristic version to this type of ensemble. Their efforts can be considered successful, and they have become a top-notch saxophone quartet that is without equal in Europe.
Sarah Chaksad’s new album, “Together,” increasingly features musical influences from Persia and the Orient. Her multi-layered compositions reflect personal experiences and current events. She considers the album as a plea for togetherness and solidarity, across national and political borders. “Together” combines the enormous sound variability, depth, and dynamic of a large formation with impressive, highly individual solo pieces. Its sophisticated rhythms, vivacious joy of playing, and some influences that are rather uncommon in jazz result in an intellectually and emotionally engaging music that you don’t hear every day. This by now highly attuned ensemble is among the best Swiss jazz has on offer.
Tickets are CHF 31.00 and 50.40.
