50 Years Hat Hut Records — Simon Lucaciu Trio / Marco von Orelli & Lotus Crash

The Simon Lucaciu Trio, consisting of Lucaciu (piano), Florian Müller (double bass), and Lukas Heckers (drums), was the winner of the 2023 Young Jazz Talent Award. The trio has been working continuously for eight years on the consideration of improvisation and composition in the context of a piano trio. The band was founded in Plauen in 2016 and won a federal prize at "Jugend Jazzt" the following year. In autumn 2018, the three musicians moved to Leipzig and began studying jazz at the HMT Leipzig. The trio's sponsors included Prof. Michael Wollny. Since then, the trio has moved through different phases of collaboration and found its own style, sound, and artistic identity. In 2023, they released their debut album "STRG + X". The Hat Hut label has made the trio internationally known.
Marco von Orelli initially studied classical music with a focus on jazz in Winterthur and Zürich. He later completed the first year of the Master's degree in improvisation at the Basel University of Music. Von Orelli has given and continues to give concerts with formations and orchestras of various styles. In 2012, the Hat Hut Records label released von Orelli's highly acclaimed debut recording as bandleader under Marco von Orelli 6, "Close Ties on Hidden Lanes," in the hatOLOGY series. In his artistic work, von Orelli moves in the field of advanced trends in improvisation and jazz music. His band Lotus Crash also includes Tommy Meier (tenor sax and bass clarinet), Luca Sisera (double bass), and Sheldon Suter (percussion).
