A Tribute to Jimmy Rogers

The Groove Now Blues Weeks Basel 2023 present a world premiere—an homage to the great Chicago blues legend, Jimmy Rogers. Together with Muddy Waters and Little Walter, Rogers founded the electric Chicago blues in the 40s, which laid the foundation for rock'n’roll and thus also for rock music.
In his last year before his passing, Rogers worked on an all-star project with Eric Clapton, Stephen Stills, Taj Mahal, Led Zeppelin stars Robert Plant and Jimmy Page, and The Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. The album was released in 1999—two years after his death—under the title “Blues, Blues, Blues.” Rogers’ music is as relevant today as it was then and represents an important piece of blues history.
For this project, Groove Now has recruited two musicians who played in Rogers' band—Steve Guyger and Piano Willie O'Shawny. Guyger lives in Philadelphia and is one of the finest blues singers and harmonica players in the world. He has been a major player in international blues for over 40 years, was a member of Rogers' band for many years, and belongs in the league of the great harmonica players. In addition, he is a great singer. Piano Willie O'Shawny, long-time member of the Legendary Blues Band and the band of the great William Clark, has also played in the Rogers’ band.
On this evening, these two musicians will be joined on stage by the great musicians of Nick Moss' band and saxophonist Sax Gordon.
Tickets are CHF 69.
