"And the shark, it has teeth, and it wears them in the face, and Macheath, he has a knife, but the knife can’t be seen." For once, table figures with distinctive facial features sing Kurt Weill's famous melodies. The crook Mackie Messer breaks every woman's heart with his dazzling smile, police chief Tiger Brown shines with real brush hair, Peachum's gray face seems as dirty as his suspiciously acquired money. The expressiveness of the faces is underlined by the stylized design of the bodies, which are reminiscent of busts.
“What is breaking into a bank compared to founding a bank?” Bertolt Brecht's piece has lost none of its relevance. “The Threepenny Opera” is probably the most frequently performed of Brecht's well-known pieces. Networks, intrigues, corruption, and devious machinations are exposed and celebrated here.
This puppet theater is based on John Gay's "The Beggars Opera."
Tickets are CHF 40 for adults and CHF 30 for students.
