Basel City Race — Orienteering Weekend

Various Locations

Orienteering in urban areas is a relatively new form of competition that is characterized by quick decisions, many changes of direction, and a high speed. When orienteering through alleys, residential areas, and parks, a quick grasp and speedy legs are required. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Orientierungslauf-Gruppe Basel (Basel’s orienteering group), they will be hosting an international orienteering weekend with four attractive sprint, park, and city orienteering events.
The weekend will open on Friday evening with a prologue in the Dreiländerpark in Weil am Rhein, Germany, for about 250 runners from 17:00-20:00.
The Swiss National Event and Basel City Race will be held on Saturday from 11:00-16:00. The middle-distance competition takes place in the border triangle on Swiss, German, and French soil. With the route passing over the Dreiländerbrücke and thus over the Rhein, this competition with about 1,200 runners is part of the Euro City Park Tour.
The center of Basel will be the venue for the Swiss Sprint Orienteering Championship 2022 on Sunday morning from 09:00-12:00. For this sprint, the route will lead past the Münster and the Spalentor city gate, through narrow alleys of the old town, around the Tinguely fountain, and across the Marktplatz with the ancient town hall.
Finally, the Swiss Orienteering Sprint Relay will take place on Sunday afternoon (14:00-16:00) in Basel's Burgfelderpark. The Baselland orienteering group is responsible for this competition.
Participation is only possible with pre-registration through https://portal.ol-events.ch/events/73; registration deadline is June 6 for the Friday event and May 30 for the other events.
