After a huge success with a sold-out concert at the Stadtcasino, the world’s greatest classical music concert returns to Basel! Inspired by the legendary music festival at the Royal Albert Hall in London, Basel Proms—the first of its kind in Switzerland—is a glittering gala evening that brings together Swiss, U.K., and international artists in a grand celebration of music, arts and culture.
The event will feature the Basel Festival Orchestra, the Basel Proms Chorus, and a number of international and Basel-based soloists. The Basel Proms Chorus is made up of up to 130 members of every age group and level of experience who come from Basel, Zürich, France, Germany, and beyond. The orchestra and chorus are led by Principal Conductor David Lawrence, one of the U.K.’s most acclaimed and versatile conductors. Lawrence has worked with orchestras, symphony choruses, and national youth choirs. He was awarded a prestigious award by the Royal Academy of Music, is a Gramophone nominee, and holds the Guinness World Record for conducting the U.K.’s largest choir.
On this evening, the program includes well-known masterpieces and traditional Proms favorites by Brahms, Canteloube, Elgar, Gershwin, Glinka, Händel, Hebel, Lehár, Parry, Puccini, Verdi, and Wood, including a medley from the musical "The Sound of Music" by Rodgers and Hammerstein in a special arrangement for this concert.
Tickets are CHF 41.50-122.50 for adults and CHF 21.00-102.50 for students and members of Kulturlegi.
