Together with the Belgian soprano Ilse Eerens, the Basel Sinfonietta enter imaginary soundscapes. “Imaginary Landscape No. 1” by the American composer John Cage is considered the initial work of electroacoustic music. The orchestral song cycle "Let me tell you" by the Danish composer Hans Abrahamsen is based on a novella by the British librettist Paul Griffiths, in which a new monologue is created from Ophelia’s 483 words in Shakespeare's "Hamlet", which deals with love, hope, despair and madness. The Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho looks up into the wintry sky and in her "Ciel d'hiver," creates a musical homage to the constellation Orion. "... the sky, just so clear, suddenly turns dark..." is the title of the orchestral piece by Swiss composer Michael Jarrell—a musical juxtaposition of calm and catastrophe with an effect that is as powerful as it is emotionally stirring.
Tickets are CHF 33-75; half price for people under age 25, students, and holders of the Kulturlegi; and CHF 5 for kids under age 12.
