The holiday season is a great time of the year to reflect and conjure up wishes and thoughts—things you are thankful for; lists to Santa Claus; or wishes for peace, love, and health. There is a public “Wunschbuch” (book of wishes) located in the front courtyard of the Rathaus (city hall) at Marktplatz. For the 27th year, everyone is invited to write down their thoughts, as well as read what other people are wishing for! After January 5, the book will be kept in the Basel archives for years to come—a sort of modern-day wish time capsule.
Another option is to write your wishes on a card that you decorate and place on the designated "Wunschbaum" (tree of wishes) located in Rümelinsplatz, just behind Marktplatz.
