Basel Beer Market

Beer lovers mark your calendar for Basel's annual beer market, which will again be held over the course of two days! On both days, beer lovers can taste numerous beers in a variety of different styles, including albino, dark, pale ale, smoked, strong, wheat, whisky ale, and more. The Basler Biermarkt offers small regional breweries a platform for presenting their beers, but there will also be beers from selected breweries from other regions of Switzerland and neighboring countries. Whatever your fancy, there will be pints (or actually liters) for every taste. Note, however, that not all breweries will be present on both days!
Several food stands and an attractive beer-garden setting also help to make this an enjoyable outing with friends. Located at Vogesenplatz near the Bahnhof St. Johann, the beer market can easily be reached by public transport with trams number 1, 2, 6, 8, 14, 16, and 21.
The event takes place in any weather; tables are either under the bridge or covered by a tent.
You will need to pay a small basic fee and a deposit for a beer market glass (CHF 5), and the desired amount of tokens at CHF 1 per token—CHF 20 is a good start (you can always buy more tokens later). Tokens are exchanged for beer at a rate of about 2 chips per 150 mL beer; food can be purchased with cash. At the end, you can keep the glass, return it for a CHF 2 deposit, or donate it to the beer market.
