Musician Dida Guigan says his project “Beyrouth Express” was born on stage as a result of the explosion in the port of Beyrouth on August 4, 2020. Together with the musician François Lindemann, he gathered Swiss and Arab musicians and a large audience at the Casino Montbenon in Lausanne a few weeks later to process the tragedy and raise money so that cultural workers in Lebanon could continue to study music and express themselves. They eventually recorded the pieces played at the concert in a Swiss studio and then toured Lebanon in spring 2022. This experience allowed the Lebanese and Swiss musicians to meet and breathe new life into the project. The stay in Lebanon led to a second recording session in Lebanon at the Hammana Artist House. The album “Beyrouth-Express” is the sum of these events. It is rich in impressions and emotions and is hoped to mark the beginning of a strong exchange and new possibilities across borders.
