From August 21 to September 23, Theater Basel will be presenting a dance festival with works by dancers and members of the ensemble and guests. For these four weeks, Ballett Basel transforms the foyer into a customized stage. Entitled “Beziehungsweise” (a wordplay on the German word for “respectively” that also can be interpreted as “related to relationships”) invites visitors to the theater to celebrate the diversity of love and to experience the diversity of dance at the beginning of the season. Starting with a world premiere created and presented by the ensemble, the festival continues with a duet evening dedicated to the theme of love by Nazareth Panadero & Co and toaspern|moeller. Three solos by Oleg Stepanov, Jonathan Fredrickson, and Tilman O'Donnell will also be presented at the festival, as well as a virtual ball in the form of the interactive virtual reality performance “Le Bal de Paris” by Spanish choreographer Blanca Li.
On this evening, Blanca Li invites you to the biggest ball in Paris! Music and dance merge with virtual reality to create an innovative, festive, artistic, and spectacular experience. You don't need to be familiar with dance or virtual reality to immerse yourself in this ball that will take you on a journey through different universes. With “Le Bal de Paris de Blanca Li,” virtual reality revolutionizes the world of immersive performances and erases the boundary between spectator and dancer. Anything is possible!
“Le Bal de Paris de Blanca Li” is a great love story in three acts that you will experience together with 10 other audience members. Two dancers, who play the leading roles, take turns asking you to waltz or cancan. You can watch, dance along, interact with the dancers and the other guests, or join in this unforgettable evening. It’s party that ends with a ball in real life through interactive and timeless entertainment in virtual reality, a world that is as poetic as it is fantastic.
There will be six 45-minute performances on each day, each starting at the top of the hour.
Tickets are CHF 40 for adults and CHF 10 for youths up to age 16 or students up to age 30.
