Book Launch and Artist Talk with Roger Ballen

On the occasion of the exhibition “Call of the Void” with works by artist Roger Ballen at Museum Tinguely, Kehrer Verlag is publishing an English catalogue with texts by Ballen, Andres Pardey, and a foreword by Roland Wetzel, with approximately 40 illustrations. Born 1950 in New York and based in Johannesburg, South Africa, since 1982, Ballen is one of the most important photographers of his generation. He has published over 25 books internationally and has collections in the most prominent museums in the world.
“Call of the Void” is the eighth in a series of exhibitions at Museum Tinguely under the title “Danse macabre” that show works responding to Jean Tinguely’s late work “Mengele Totentanz.” In his often disturbing, unsettling photographs and installations, Ballen examines the human psyche and asks both himself and the viewer questions about being and becoming. “Call of the Void” consists of two parts: The walls are hung with photographs from Ballen’s last analogue series, “Asylum of the Birds,” and “Roger's Rats,” while the center of the space is dominated by a shack, a dwelling for poor people on the margins of society.
On the morning of June 13, all are invited to the Museum Tinguely for the launch of the new catalog and an artist talk (in English); the book will be available in the museum shop from June 13 for CHF 35.
