“Brasil Night” — Hamilton de Holanda Trio / Andrea Motis Duo

Stadtcasino Basel
Tuesday, 23 April
20:00-22:30

Born in 1976, Hamilton de Holanda is a superstar in his home country Brazil. He is not only probably the best virtuoso on the ten-string mandolin, he is also a great mediator between traditional and modern Brazilian music. This is particularly evident in his enthusiasm for the choro, a complex instrumental music that originated towards the end of the 19th century. He has already won several Latin Grammy awards and sometimes releases three to four albums a year, most recently the CD "Samba de Chico." Since Baden Powell's and Egberto Gismonti's great successes in Europe a long time ago, there has been a huge gap in our knowledge of contemporary Brazilian music. It will be a memorable performance in honor of the legendary Carlos Jobim.
Following her fantastic collaboration with the WDR Bigband on the album "Colours & Shadows," Andrea Motis has released her new solo album "Loopholes." Already a top star in Spain, Motis is set to cause a sensation here in Switzerland with this album! The international press is celebrating the Catalan, born in 1995, whose art, personality, and countless club appearances are also inspiring the younger generation for jazz. And she does so with jazz that has a classical feel, mostly oriented towards bossa nova or samba. She loves and lives jazz and is multi-talented—she composes, sings, and plays several instruments. She has already wowed audiences internationally at New York's Jazz at Lincoln Center, Jazz a Vienne, and Tokyo Jazz Festival, and her list of collaborations with artists such as Quincy Jones, Yo-Yo Ma, Omara Portuondo, Milton Nascimento, and the WDR Big Band is more than impressive.
Tickets are CHF 34.10-90.90.
