Music from the dusty borderland of the southwest of the USA with sounds that are as mysterious and magnificent as the desert landscape itself—that is Calexico. The band, founded by guitarist and singer Joey Burns and drummer John Convertino in the late 1990s in Tucson, Arizona, comes to the Burghof Lörrach as part of a special European tour. The two founding members perform together with trumpeter Martin Wenk as an intimate trio and offer the audience the opportunity to experience the legendary formation up close.
Since their formation, Calexico have spent most of their career exploring musical boundaries and merging influences from roots, rock, and Latin into a unique sound. The band achieved their commercial breakthrough with the album “Feast of Wire” (2003). Their latest work “El Mirador” (2022) is considered a haunting and hopeful statement that inspires reflection on humanity, nature, and the future.
