Carmina Burana

Stadtcasino Basel
Saturday, 11 November
19:00-21:00

The fact that Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana" is much more than the well-known invocation of the goddess of fate "Fortuna" that frames the work, is shown by the tender love songs, rough bar songs, and lovely settings of nature, which are also taken from the medieval song collection from the Benediktbeuren monastery. Mélanie Huber is responsible for the implementation of the “scenic cantata,” which is rarely experienced as such. With her re-creations from the songs of the Codex Buranus, Hanna Marti will set to music a current perspective on the medieval songs in a historically informed and artistically creative manner.
The Junger Kammerchor Basel is expanded to up to 200 voices thanks to the participation of four high school choirs from the region—a powerful sound concert experience, enhanced by the participation of the large concert organ of the Stadtcasino Basel and the percussion ensemble of the FHNW Hochschule für Musik.
Tickets are CHF 30-60 for adults and CHF 10 for students.
