Mr. Vertigo is modern power groove music with the smartness of jazz, the melancholy of indie rock, and the lightness of pop. Two drummers deliver the rhythm carpet, sometimes in unison, sometimes closely interlocked, on which Ursus Bachthaler develops his screamingly expressive, then again gently poetic solos, depending on the song, grounded by an agile, warm bass that holds the music together. Bachthaler has dedicated his compositions to musicians who have accompanied and influenced him over the past decade. And so, the spirit of Bon Iver, Me'Shell Nedegeocello, John Scofield, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Nir Felder, and Scott Henderson wafts through this absolutely unmistakably original music.
