From December 26-28, various concerts with Europe's leading ensembles will take place for the fifth time at the Don Bosco Basel Music and Cultural Center as part of the mini-festival “Klassik Sterne A Cappella.” Between Christmas and New Year, a special world of sound is created that touches the heart and soul. Each day will feature two sets, and the first set of the evening will end with an open singing session, to which all are warmly invited. What lessons does darkness bring? When the blue light creeps beyond the horizon, shadows creep into our minds. They need the touch of white and golden lights— of the stars, of fire, of the sun's reflections in the moon and snow. It is the nights that hold the flames for our inner lights. At this concert, the Leipzig vocal ensemble Sjaella reflects on the one time of year that particularly allows us to pause. It appears to us as the end and new beginning of our life's chapters, and at no other time do we yearn more for light, warmth, love, and community. Christmas, the “festival of love,” is the centerpiece of this season, represented here by European Christmas carols and Renaissance settings of the Song of Songs. Contemporary works composed especially for the ensemble also capture the wonder inherent in every birth and every new beginning; an incomparable force that guides a young being trustingly and curiously into its development.
Tickets for this concert are CHF 29-59 for adults and half-price for youths up to age 18 and students. Day passes, which include both concerts on this day, are CHF 49-79 and half-price for youths and students.
