Collegium Music Basel — Winterträume (Winter Dreams)
The Collegium Musicum Basel continues its cycle of works by Johannes Brahms. The season begins with the famous Double Concerto for Violin and Violoncello in A minor, a gripping work that captivates with dramatic dialogues between the solo instruments, accompanied by a large orchestra. This concert demonstrates Brahms' sophisticated compositional technique and his gift for conveying profound emotions. Equally impressive is Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's First Symphony, also known as "Winter Dreams." This symphony paints a vivid picture of Russian winter landscapes, marked by Tchaikovsky's typical melodic brilliance and emotional intensity. Both works illustrate their composers' mastery of Romantic music and offer deep insights into their musical universes.
The Collegium Music Basel will be welcoming Alina Pogostkina, the new professor of violin at the Basel University of Music, as a soloist. She will perform with the famous cellist Danjulo Ishizaka, also a lecturer at the renowned Basel institution. Jan Schultsz, the newly appointed chief conductor and artistic director of the Collegium Music Basel will be at the helm. The internationally renowned conductor and professor at the Basel University of Music brings extensive experience and will set new standards. The audience can look forward to an exciting collaboration!
There will be a pre-concert at 18:15 with the Young Basel Symphony Orchestra. Romantic symphonies are part of the core repertoire of the Young Basel Symphony Orchestra.
