Collegium Musicum Basel — Trauer und Trost (Mourning and Consolation)

In this concert, the Collegium Musicum Basel and soprano Amelia Scicolone present works by Francis Poulenc and Caude Debussy. Poulenc's "Stabat Mater" and "Gloria" are his two best-known and most important choral works for large orchestra. The "Stabat Mater," which Poulenc himself called a "requiem without despair," is among the most moving pieces of 20th-century French music. Exuberant jubilation, serene composure, inner peace, and simple beauty are the attributes that can be associated with Poulenc's masterfully ingenious "Gloria." Between the two choral works, Claude Debussy's four symphonic fragments "Le Martyre de Saint Sébastien" for large orchestra will be performed. This music is exceptionally colorful, reflecting the influence of Debussy's encounter with Wagner's "Parsifal" as well as the music of Palestrina. With this concert, the Collegium Musicum Basel continues its successful collaboration with the renowned Basel Bach Choir and its music director, Joachim Krause.
Tickets are CHF 49-89 for adults and CHF 21.20 for students.
