Concert—Seelen Verwandt (Soul Mated)
The orchestra is a body of sound. It needs the invigorating souls of the musicians: João Pires, Pinnock, Mozart, Gounod, and the Basel Chamber Orchestra. These souls are related and you will hear that!
World famous pianist Maria João Pires only gives a few select concerts, which is why it is all the more wonderful that she is coming to Basel. She will be playing Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 23 in A major by her favorite composer Mozart, whose music she plays in a way that is inimitably lively and profound like hardly anyone else.
The concert will be directed byTrevor Pinnock, the pioneer of historical performance practice, with whom João Pires has enjoyed a long-standing friendship and fruitful artistic partnership. In addition, the concert will include works of two French masters, the gifted melody inventor Charles Gounod and Maurice Ravel, whose “Le Tombeau de Couperin” is ironic, energetic, and ingeniously orchestrated and harmonized, conjuring a forgotten world.
Tickets are CHF 30-90 for adults and half-price for students.
