Contemporary Circus — Sawdust Symphony
Craftsmanship meets circus art. In “Sawdust Symphony,” Michael Zandl, David Eisele, and Kolja Huneck combine their passion for tools, fresh wood, and object manipulation. The contemporary circus piece tells of the human desire for occupation, the process from the first vision to the finished piece, and the relationship between machine and man. Three obsessed characters discover and transform their space and themselves in a shrill DIY experience.
“Sawdust Symphony” is an intense dialogue between satisfaction, frustration, and the smell of petrol. What kind of desire is satisfied when we hammer a nail into wood? What kind of satisfaction is created by sanding a surface with sandpaper? The three performers met while studying at the Codarts Circus Arts circus school in Rotterdam. During the creation process of their individual solo pieces "Janus," "Cycle," and "CM_30" they discovered their shared passion for building and crafting.
