Daniele di Bonaventura began to take an interest in music at age 5. He first learned to play the piano and keyboards. His older brother introduced him to the music of Genesis, while his father introduced him to the operas of Puccini and Verdi. He soon discovered jazz and folk music. Bonaventura studied classical composition at the conservatory with the aim of becoming a classical performer. He then switched to the bandoneon. From the outset, Bonaventura sought to find his own voice on this instrument. On his album “Bandoneon & Bandoneon” (2000), he juxtaposed the instrument with the sound world of the piano. He is involved in numerous projects: in addition to his own quartet Band'Union, he plays in a duo with trumpeter Paolo Fresu and in the formation Mistico Mediterraneo with the Corsican choir A Filetta, which cultivates the local tradition of polyphonic singing. In 2003, he performed his Suite for Bandoneon and Orchestra with the Marchigiana Philharmonia, which had commissioned the piece.
The second part of the evening features a trio including bassist, cellist, and composer Lars Danielsson as well as two jazz greats from the North: Finnish trumpeter Verneri Pohjola and British guitarist John Parricelli. Listeners will enjoy the genius loci, the tranquility, and intimacy of their album “TRIO,” which was originally recorded at Chateau Palmer. This album not only brings the original idea of collaboration between ACT and Château Palmer to life in a palpably exciting and fitting way, but also captures the magic that arises when unique artists come together in a uniquely beautiful and special environment.
Tickets are CHF 33.10-87.90.
