Dominik Stark, known in Basel mainly as a violinist, shows himself in this concert from his lesser-known side as a composer and interpreter in one person. In his extensive piano cycle "Desert Music," created between 2011 and 2023, he takes his audience on an unusual journey through time and sound. His 25 sound meditations are partly epic, exclusively calm, mostly monophonic, and mostly quiet pieces—always on the verge of complete silence, not at all pianistic and yet created entirely from the piano sound and its physical conditions. The cycle as a whole is also, among other things, an homage to the (far too little known) important Basel poet Cécile Ines Loos.
Admission is free but there will be a collection.
