Formed in the early 1970s on Canvey Island in Essex, Dr. Feelgood remains one of the most popular and exciting live rhythm and blues bands in the world. Their raw and uncompromising performance style resulted in the album “Stupidity,” which immediately reached number one in the U.K. charts. Dr. Feelgood also enjoyed worldwide success with a string of hit singles, including “Roxette,” “Back in the Night,” “Milk and Alcohol,” “Down at the Doctors,” and “See You Later Alligator”—which earned the group their first gold record.
The last album with Lee Brilleaux—“Down at the Doctors”—was recorded live in the Dr. Feelgood Music Bar on Canvey Island (now the Oysterfleet Hotel) just two months before his death. The current line-up includes the rhythm section of Kevin Morris on drums and Phil Mitchell on bass (who have been with the band for 40 years); the return of the legendary Gordon Russell on guitar; and Robert Kane, who has been with the band since 1999.
In November 2022, the band released “Damn Right!”—an album of new original material that received critical acclaim. In January 2024, a new live album recorded in France, entitled “Live in Caen,” was released, cementing the band's reputation as a dynamic live act.
The band continues to tour extensively throughout the world and wilil make one stop in Liestal. There will be food truck with Flammenkuchen, Silserli, sweet pastries, and drinks, starting at 19:00. For a relaxing evening, park in the parking garage (Rebgarten), walk to the Mooi restaurant, enjoy a delicious meal—and then take a leisurely stroll to the Elefantehuus.
