Draisine Derby 9
The cultural critic Stephan Reuter described the Draisine race as "Basel's most original art event." The annual Draisine Derby sees itself as a free space in a performance-oriented society—daredevils with their self-built rail vehicles compete for victory in the race and the favor of the audience and jury, but also in the melodious category of the most beautiful failure, based on Christoph Schlingensief's “Failure as an Opportunity:” "Do something! It doesn't matter what." This is how the Draisine Derby has been moving on and along the tracks since 2016—between art and sport, minimalism and spectacle, technology and trash. A place of openness and encounters where fundamentally different expectations meet—some participants want to be the fastest, others the most beautiful, many want to move in an original way, even be art, some just want to be funny. And others don't care about any of that. What is a draisine anyway? We really don't know. Come and see for yourself!
Participation is free.
