Emmet Cohen Trio — CD Release

Emmet Cohen, born in Florida in 1990, began playing the piano at age 3 and then received classical training using the Suzuki method. He went on to study at the University of Miami and the Manhattan School of Music, where he earned his master's degree. In 2010, he recorded his debut album, “In the Element,” with Greg Gisbert, Joe Sanders, and Rodney Green; further recordings were made in the 2010s with Eric Miller (Trust Your Intuition), Brian Lynch, Veronica Swift, and Herlin Riley; in 2019/20, he contributed to Veronica Swift's album “This Bitter Earth.” In 2011, he was a finalist in the Thelonious Monk International Piano Competition in Washington, D.C., and in 2019, he won the American Pianists Award. Under his own name, Cohen recorded two albums entitled “Masters Legacy Series,” which deal with the history of jazz. Contributing musicians included jazz veterans Jimmy Cobb, Ron Carter, Yasushi Nakamura, and Evan Sherman. Cohen has performed at New York jazz clubs such as Birdland, Blue Note, Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola, Jazzhus Montmartre, and Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club. He has also performed as a Hammond B-3 player at Club Smoke. In 2021, he released the album “Future Stride.” As a versatile jazz pianist and composer, Cohen is one of the pioneers of his generation in promoting music and related arts. Cohen states that playing jazz is about “conveying the deepest levels of humanity and individuality; it's essentially about connections,” both between musicians and with the audience. He leads his eponymous ensemble, the Emmet Cohen Trio; is a vibrant solo artist; and is a highly sought-after sideman. With fluid technique, an innovative sonic palette, and an extensive repertoire, Cohen plays with the mastery and passion of an artist wholly committed to his medium.
