European Days of Monuments 2022 — Basel

The Europäische Tage des Denkmals (European Days of Monuments, or European Heritage Days) are part of an EU-wide initiative that since 1994 has been implemented under various names in many European countries. These days are designed to celebrate European heritage by giving everybody an opportunity to visit some of Europe’s beautiful historical monuments. There will be many activities through Switzerland on September 10 and 11, with activities in Basel taking place on Saturday, September 10.
The activities in Basel focus on the area around the Spalenvorstadt. There will be a diverse program with numerous guided tours and walks to discover the architectural and cultural-historical diversity of this area. In addition to the street that bears the name Spalenvorstadt with one of the most beautiful city gates in Switzerland—the Spalentor—activities will take place throughout the historic suburb between the two former city walls and between Leonhardsstrasse and Petersplatz. Vintage trams will be running again this year to shorten the journey between guided tours or to simply to be able to experience authentic tram culture on an unusual route.
Starting at 17:30, the Kammerorchester Basel will be playing in the large hall of the Musik-Akademie. Before and after the concert, you can exchange ideas about building culture in the courtyard of the music academy—accompanied by cold beer and grilled food.
The detailed program will be published online on Thursday, September 1. The number of participants is limited for all guided tours and events; with few exceptions, prior online registration with a Print@Home ticket is mandatory. So be sure to register in advance online, starting on September 3 at https://www.basler-baukultur.ch/.
All guided tours and events on this day are free of charge.
