Fauré Requiem and Mozart Mass in C Minor
Mozart's Mass in C minor KV 427 and Fauré's Requiem in D minor op. 48 could not be more different! One was created in Vienna, in the late 18th century, and is expansive and sumptuous; the other in Paris, in the late 19th century, and is more intimate and gentle. Despite their great contrast, both breathe the same spirit, a spirit of refreshing and comforting spirituality. And although both the Mass and the Requiem are among the most popular choral works, they are very rarely performed together. On this day, the Knabenkantorei (Boys’ Choir) together with the Kammerorchester Basel will present the two settings of the text of the Mass and the text of the Requiem in the Stadtcasino, refraining from a subsequent addition to the unfinished Mass and ending the concert with the jubilant “Hosanna.” Soloists are Gunta Smirnova (soprano), Sarah Widmer (alto), Jakob Pilgram (tenor), and Tobias Wicky (bass).
Tickets are CHF 15-60.
