Finale International Guitar Competition “Maurizio Biasini”

The International Guitar Competition Maurizio Biasini (cciMB) returns to Basel after more than 10 years with its sixth edition. The already established guitar competition, which is dedicated to the physicist and guitarist Maurizio Biasini, is closely linked to the city of Basel and its Musik-Akademie.
After an online video round in January 2024 and the semi-finals at the Musik-Akademie Basel from August 20-22, the final round of the competition will take place at the Don Bosco Musik- und Kulturzentrum, where the three finalists will perform a guitar concert accompanied by the Basel Sinfonieorchester conducted by Ivor Bolton. The cciMB 2024 is thus continuing its tradition of offering the finalists of the competition this valuable and rare opportunity to perform with an orchestra. The program will also include the world premiere of the composition “Conventional Inventions for Solo Guitar” by Swiss composer and violist Helena Winkelman, commissioned by cciMB 2024.
The winner of the competition will receive a prize of € 12,000 as well as concert opportunities in Switzerland (Rising Stars of the Allgemeine Musikgesellschaft AMG Basel, 2025/2026), Italy, and other countries such as the United States (San Francisco). While the main goal of the cciMB is to promote young guitarists and their careers, the competition also offers its participants the unique opportunity to exchange ideas with the members of the jury and their fellow participants. The motto of the cciMB is “meet, exchange, perform, and learn.” The cciMB festival complements the competition program with concerts, master classes, lectures, and other events.
