Flâneur Festival Highlight Week
From May to September, an urban-space festival called Flâneur has been offering numerous colorful, wild, crazy, and emotional experiences for everyone, with the aim of fostering a “positive attitude towards life.” Short-term real estate uses, stagings in public spaces, activation of hidden city locations, as well as creative transformations of existing concepts and platform events have lead to new and attractive city experiences.
The 4-month festival culminates with 10 days of concentrated activities in a defined inner-city perimeter/urban space. Hyper-staging, shops, exciting places of pleasure, participatory activities, cultural islands, special urban space performances, new real estate uses, and local handicrafts invite you to be a part of this unique urban space festival again and again. Check the website for a detailed plan of events.
Be sure to catch the Flâneur Festival “finale“ on the last three evenings—Thursday, September 15, Friday, September 16, and Saturday, September 17—when the colorful joie de vivre will bubble up between Barfüsserplatz and Marktplatz in the evening. Falknerstrasse and Gerbergasse will be transformed into a colorful pedestrian promenade, a magical place of adventure with around 130 offers to discover along the way. Local brands and manufacturers will present themselves in pop-up corners with handicrafts, creative workshops, and innovative offers. In addition, numerous stationary restaurants, bars, and food corners offer a diverse selection of eating, drinking and shopping options. Three permanently installed and several mobile stages will be used by local artists, bands, slam poets, dancers, and soloists. So be sure to stroll through this important stretch of the city center, which will bring together everything that makes the city special.
Note that from 18:00 to midnight on these three nights, no trams will be running between Barfüsserplatz and Marktplatz! All tram lines normally crossing the city center will be diverted away from this area in such a way that you can still reach the festival as well as all destinations outside the festival area by public transport!
