The American band Flogging Molly around frontman Dave King was founded in Los Angeles in 1997. Since then, the band has thrilled audiences across generations with a mix of classic punk and Irish folklore. The use of a wide variety of instruments, from the mandolin to the banjo and the accordion, create a unique sound that is completed by electric guitar, bass, and drums. In terms of content, the band deals with socially and politically relevant topics, such as the economy, unemployment, and unsuccessful migration policies. The band—and the world—have been through a lot in recent years, and so the seventh album "Anthem," released in autumn 2022, is about the collective spirit that resides within all of us and enables us to push forward into the future.
In 25 years and thousands of concerts around the world, Flogging Molly have pushed the boundaries between genres and have become a band that could literally share the stage with The Chieftains one day and Motörhead the next (which they did!). Meanwhile, fans of several generations visit the band's concerts—clear proof of their ongoing relevance, which is why punk and folk fans can look forward to seeing the band live at the Burghof.
