The FOG—Festival of Open Genres—highlights the current state of experimental electronic music and presents an innovative program of live concerts, sound art, and DJs. The line-up at this fourth edition includes some of the most innovative artists on the contemporary Swiss music scene as well as international guests who expand the program with their live performances. With concerts, audiovisual performances, an expanded sound art exhibition, and club nights, FOG once again presents a comprehensive overview of the international scene of experimental electronic music and sound art.
Following three successful editions, the festival continues to grow: For the first time, in addition to Kaserne, FOG will also take place at Tanzhaus Basel and the Museum Tinguely. Over four days, four interconnected venues will be created, offering diverse experiences of contemporary sound art—from focused listening sessions and audiovisual concerts to installations and club events. International highlights include performances by the American ambient pioneer William Basinski, the Canadian composer Loscil, the Berlin-based artist Dasha Rush, the Turkish sound artist Hüma Utku, and the Dutch Serge Modular virtuoso Thomas Ankersmit. The program is complemented by Swiss artists such as Marie Delprat, Cepheì, and TSUNIMAN, as well as numerous other guests.
A particular focus of this year's edition is on exchange within Switzerland. In cooperation with the Ticino-based collective Altrove, a uniquely curated stage will be created over two festival evenings, featuring artists from Ticino and the neighboring Italian region. This collaboration strengthens the dialogue between the language regions and brings a scene that has been relatively invisible in Swiss experimental music to a wider audience.
Alongside the concert program, FOG presents a significantly expanded sound art exhibition. The group exhibition brings together installation works by international and Swiss artists and understands sound as a spatial, physical, and sculptural medium. For the first time, large-scale, room-filling installations will also be featured.
With the 2026 edition, FOG is further expanding its international collaborations. In addition to working with European networks such as RESET and the European Festivals Association, a partnership with the Korean WeSA Festival is being established for the first time, resulting, among other things, in a performance by sound artist Gazaebal. At the same time, FOG is deepening its long-standing collaborations with Kaserne Basel, the Electronic Studio Basel / FHNW Academy of Music, and, for the first time, the Museum Tinguely.
Admission to the sound-art program is free. Individual concert tickets are CHF 10-20. Day passes are CHF 39 for adults and CHF 19 for students up to age 25 and festival passes are CHF 79 for adults and CHF 45 for students. Purchase your tickets in advance or pay CHF 5 more at the venue.
