One third of all food is lost on the way from the field to the plate—in Switzerland that's 2.8 million tons a year! About a third of this wasted food spoils in private households.
On this Saturday, a broad sponsorship of more than 10 organizations in the field of sustainable nutrition is organizing the second Foodsave banquet in Basel, where the focus will be on everyday food waste. With the participation of the Markthalle Basel and the KHaus, they will be setting up the banquet’s second edition in Basel at Kasernenplatz (Apéritif starts at 17:00 and the banquet starts at 18:00). Under the guidance of professional chefs, healthy food will be processed into a 3-course meal in a playful and enjoyable way and offered for a voluntary donation.
The Foodsave Bankett idea was developed by foodwaste.ch in Bern and has since been successfully held in various Swiss cities. The Foodsave banquet in Basel is a highlight for raising public awareness of sustainable nutrition in Basel. The organizing committee is made up of a network—IG Nutrition Forum Basel, Foodsharing Basel, Markthalle Basel, Basel Unverpackt, Schweizer Tafel, GreenUp—in cooperation with other supporting organizations and financing partners, including the canton of Basel-Stadt. They hope to reach a broad public and have a positive impact on the topic of creating less food waste in the Basel region.
