“Funky Italy” — Mario Biondi & Band

Volkshaus Basel
Wednesday, 19 April
20:15

Even Mario Biondi's voice sounds like pure soul and soul jazz. The sensual grooves, combined with the incredibly soulful, unique voice, give his international productions an incomparable charm that warms your heart. In Italy, Biondi is already known in every corner of the country and has several gold records to his name.
Originating from Sicily, Biondi grew up in a very musical family. His grandmother was an opera singer and his father is an author of important Sicilian folk songs. Biondi therefore came into contact with music at a young age and sang all over Sicily starting at the young age of 12. In his youth, he discovered his passion for "black music," listening to the albums of James Brown, Aretha Franklyn, Earth Wind and Fire, Lou Rawls, and Al Jarreau. Although he also sang in a supporting role in an opera staged by Vincenzo Bellini, he continued to pursue his passion, refining his singing style in bars and clubs throughout Sicily. In one of these bars, one night, he also had the privilege of singing with the late, great Ray Charles. Biondi's voice, which resembles the voices that have a big name in soul and rhythm 'n’ blues, is finally coming to Basel!
Tickets are CHF 90.90 for seats and CHF 53.50 for standing room.
