Grand Mother’s Funck — 30 Years Reunion Show
The creators of "Le Funck Fédéral" have released over 160 of their own songs since 1993, constantly refining their art and remaining true to themselves. The seven-person formation Grand Mother’s Funck (GMF) Pure has been playing together constantly since the 1990s. Singer Rich Fonje has been with them for over 20 years. The first CD, "Grand Mother's Funck," was a huge hit in 1994, and 11 more were to follow over the years. In 1996, GMF stormed the U.S. college charts with their second album, "Please Baby Please Baby Baby Please," and fan clubs were set up in Japan and the Bahamas. The single "Call Me" was a hit on DRS3 and catapulted the band onto all the big festival stages and into every party cellar in Switzerland and the surrounding countries.
For 30 years, Grand Mother's Funck has been rummaging through the rich repertoire of African-American music genres, skillfully absorbing everything that serves their goal—to create music from which there is no escape. For the 2023/24 anniversary, GMF is offering the special formation 30 Years Reunion Show (GMF 30YRS). GMF's original trombonist Bernhard Bamert (The James Brown Tribute Show) is back and reinforces frontman Bean! in the horn section. With Stephan "Stief" Schneider, another founding member is on board and pimps up the already juicy GMF sound with unconventional sounds from his Hammond-Leslie. And as an absolute highlight, GMF's first singer Yasmine Tamara will be back! Her powerful voice can be heard on the 1998 album "Working Live!" and took the band to a new energy level then and now.
Tickets are CHF 37 in advance or CHF 42 at the door: CHF 5 discount for students and 50% for KulturLegi.
