Groove Now — Duke Robillard & Friends With Andrew Duncanson

Atlantis Basel
Thursday, 30 May
20:30

Michael John “Duke” Robillard (*1948) is an American blues legend. His musical influences are Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, and Duane Eddy, which he discovered in his father's record collection. He later turned to the music of Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Elmore James, and Robert Johnston, which explains the more traditional approach in his music. Robillard was a founding member of the legendary band Roomful of Blues. He left the band in 1979 to form his own band. In 1990, Kim Wilson recruited him to replace the great Jimmie Vaughan in the Fabulous Thunderbirds. At the same time, he continued to pursue his solo career.
Robillard is at home in various styles of music. His records cover various musical styles such as classic blues, jump blues, and swing. While he certainly feels at home in the more traditional blues genres, he also plays with jazz greats such as guitarist Herb Ellis. He has released well over 30 records under his own name over the course of his career and his accolades include numerous US Blues Music Awards and two Grammy nominations for his albums “Guitar Groove-a-Rama” in 2007 and “Stomp! The Blues Tonight” in 2010. His exceptional guitar playing led to Bob Dylan hiring him for his tour in 2013.
On this evening, Robillard will be playing at Groove Now for the first time. He will be backed by Sugar Ray Norcia's band as well as two world-class horn players and former members of Roomful of Blues, Greg Piccolo and Brian Casserly. In addition, Andrew Duncanson, one of the best blues and soul voices in the world, will take over most of the vocal parts of the concert.
Tickets are CHF 76.90 and can be purchased through https://www.seetickets.com/ch; seats are limited so come early or enjoy grooving to the music in standing room area.
