Groove Now Blues Week Basel will be presenting a duet with a female and a male blues and soul voice. On this evening, one of the absolute best soul-blues singers in the world—John Németh—and one of the most interesting female blues and soul singers—Gina Sicilia—will perform together on stage for the first time!
Nashville-based Sicilia, with her sandy, raspy voice, is known by music fans primarily as a singer, but she is also a great songwriter. At age 6, she was already taking part in local talent shows. As a young teenager, she discovered soul and blues music. In 2008 she received the "Blues Music Award" for "Best New Artist." In the same year, she released her second album, which reached number 10 in the Living Blues Radio Charts. Numerous other albums followed. Her latest CD "Unchange," produced by the great blues and Americana musician Colin Linden, is a definitive hit!
Németh needs no further introduction. For one thing, he is one of the world's best soul and blues singers. For another, he has already played at Groove Now several times. Hardly any other singer follows the southern soul-blues tradition of Otis Redding and O.V. Wright as successfully and convincingly as Németh. He is a great singer, harmonica player, songwriter, bandleader, and showman. He has received five Blues Music Awards for “Soul Blues Male Artist,” “Soul Blues Album,” “Traditional Blues Album of the Year,” and “Instrumentalist – Vocals” and “Instrumentalist – Harmonica.” Németh has just been nominated again for two new Blues Music Awards.
