Guided Hike in English — Cheisacher Tower

Everybody has seen the yellow hiking trail markers in Switzerland. But hardly anyone knows who is responsible for them. The marked Swiss hiking trail network is around 65,000 km, which is about 1.5 times the circumference of the Earth. Behind this professional service is a great deal of volunteer work done in cantonal organizations, supported by the umbrella organization “Schweizer Wanderwege.” In the cantons of Basel-Stadt and Basellandschaft, the “Wanderwege beider Basel” association is responsible for these tasks. About 50 volunteers also offer other services for hikers, such as guided hikes in various parts of Switzerland as well as in Alsace and the Black Forest.
This season, there will be several guided hiking tours in English in the Basel region. Your experienced hiking guide, Hanspeter Preiswerk, who has worked in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry for many years, will be leading these free hikes.
On this day, hikers will explore the eastern-most part of the Fricktal. The moderate hike through bracing spring forest will bring particpants to the Cheisacher tower with its fascinating construction. From the top, one enjoys a spectacular 360° view to the Black Forest, the Rhein valley, and the Swiss Alps. The distance for the hike is 11.5 km, with an ascent of 550 meters and a descent of 450 meters.
What should you bring? You need to provide your own food and drink, wear hiking boots and suitable clothing for the weather, and make your way individually to the meeting place. Your guide will send detailed instructions when you register.
