It's pretty rare for a Dutch band to completely blow away an event or festival, but Harlem Lake has built an impressive reputation across Europe. The quintet usually impresses with their energetic show, which awakens a longing for the 60s and 70s and yet sounds completely new. Harlem Lake proves that good blues music can be found outside of the United States and England, and so their band name proudly refers to their hometown: the Haarlemmermeer polder. Harlem Lake has already brought their idiosyncratic Southern Blues across the border and won the European Blues Challenge in Sweden (2022).
In fall 2021, the band released their debut album "A Fool's Paradise vol. 1," which was well received by the international press. Singer Janne Timmer and keyboardist Dave Warmerdam wrote most of the songs during the pandemic. The band has also recorded two of their biggest live shows of 2022—the main stage at Culemborg Blues and a theater show at the Better Get Hit Festival. The best of both worlds made it onto the album: the ecstatic energy from the festival stage and the honest concentration from a theater hall.
Occasionally, Harlem Lake's strength as a quintet is reinforced by their XXL band, which adds horns and backing vocals, and of course the new live album was recorded with this 10-piece band. Not only on the album, but especially live, they delight listeners with rousing guitar and organ work from Sonny Ray and Dave Warmerdam, supported by jam masters Kjelt Ostendorf and Benjamin Torbijn on bass and drums. The four boys accompany their singer Janne Timmer, who takes the listener on an exciting journey with her soulful and powerful voice. Harlem Lake is currently working on their third studio album, which will be a sequel to the previous one and will be titled "A Fool's Paradise vol. 2".
Tickets are CHF 30 in advance or CHF 35 at the door.
