For the 19th time, singer Helene Blum and violinist Harald Haugaard from Denmark are touring Europe, bringing the Nordic Christmas spirit to concert halls all over. Their “Nordic Christmas” project is, in their own words, “more than a concert: It is a musical journey through Scandinavian Christmas stories, old songs, new compositions, and instrumental soundscapes.” This year’s guest instruments are cello, guitar, percussion, and—a special treat—the Hardanger fiddle. This instrument, a close relative of the violin, is used primarily in southern Norwegian folk music. Similar to the more familiar Irish fiddle, it provides a characteristic, somewhat nasal and slightly scratchy timbre, thus reaching directly into the heart. An atmospheric evening is guaranteed.
