ignm Basel — Timepieces
Luxembourgish percussionist Louisa Marxen (*1982) performs her new solo program on various percussion islands and plays all possible and impossible instruments—marimba and drum; pieces of furniture and old treasures from her grandparents' house; beaters, Mikado sticks, fingers, and high heels. Each work tells a story—from the clock that only winds on Saturdays, to the sounds of bells with a macabre origin and a bag full of ping-pong balls.
In addition to the classical repertoire, Marxen is particularly interested in working with composers and developing new works. She likes to combine unusual instruments, experimental sounds, and a talent for humorous presentation to create a novel sound experience. She has participated in numerous projects in which the interaction of different art forms such as dance, theater, and visual arts is in the foreground.
On her tours in Europe, Asia, and Russia, she has worked with well-known contemporary artists and composers: Carola Bauckholt, Isabel Mundry, Georg Friedrich Haas, Fritz Hauser, and Joachim Schloemer. She is a founding member of the Eunoia Quintet and a board member of the International Society for New Music (ISNM) Basel. Since 2014, she has moderated “Klanggespräche,” an adult education program at the Basel Volkshochschule at Gare du Nord. She also teaches percussion at several Swiss music schools.
Tickets are CHF 15-35, CHF 10 for holders of Colourkey, and free for kids under age 12.
