The lagoon city of Venice is characterized by a unique atmosphere and a special musical history. Monteverdi and Vivaldi worked there; operas by Rossini, Verdi, Britten, Prokofiev, and Stravinsky were premiered in Venice; Mozart and Sibelius visited Venice. The names of some composers who were associated with Venice appear on a brand-new album by the Finnish pianist and composer Iiro Rantala entitled "Veneziana," although they are not listed as authors but in the titles of the pieces. Rantala has written his own versions of these famous composers and their themes in an emotional, very beautiful approach to the cultural city of Venice.
The second part of the concert features the Swiss premiere of a trio around Rantala, put together exclusively for the offbeat festival. Rantala returns to his roots and will be joined by two congenial partners—Dieter Ilg and Morten Lund. Ilg, Germany's No. 1 jazz double bass player with an international reputation, lends the music a lyrical quality with his playing and impresses with his technical virtuosity. Lund, a celebrated and experienced Danish drummer, provides the rhythmic drive and energy. Together they create a captivating atmosphere and offer an unforgettable listening experience. Rantala will not only inspire with his virtuoso piano playing, but also with his entertaining announcements. His charming way of telling stories and sharing background information about the pieces will bring selected jazz standards to life, giving the audience an even deeper insight into the fascinating world of jazz. The evening promises captivating melodies, improvised solos, and a pinch of humor.
Tickets are CHF 39.20-90.90.
