Interfinity Festival — Interfinity @ Old Power Plant: Nuages Infinis

The Interfinity Festival offers a fascinating mix of high-caliber international and local artists in innovative and genre-crossing concerts. Over the past few years, it has become an established part of Basel’s annual musical calendar. With a lot of dedication, the organizers draw from the huge well of music and present a surprising palette of musical styles where composers, ensembles, professors, and musicians meet in the infinity of the musical universe. From Baroque, Classic, and Romanticism to contemporary music they are exploring with great curiosity the endless worlds of sound.
The ancient tradition of the sweat lodge (a ritual space for purification and spiritual renewal)is being reinterpreted: Marie Delprat and Janiv Oron (music), Thomas Giger (scenography), and Niculin Barandun (visuals) create an immersive, two-part experience in the special atmosphere of the old power plant that combines music, light, and ritual into a haunting experience. The outer space invites you to retreat, relax, and reflect. Inspired by the spirit of the sweat lodge, it offers comfortable seating, spherical sounds from automated flutes and organ pipes, and ritual elements with light and incense. Gentle projections from the inner lodge immerse the room in atmospheric light and create a meditative preparation for the intense experience inside. At the center of the experience is the inner sweat lodge, a place of profound transformation. Here, participants are invited to immerse themselves in a journey of the senses and emotions together with Delprat and Oron. Live music and an intensifying light installation accompany this process, which unfolds an increasingly raw and powerful dynamic. As the light and sounds increase in intensity, a state of deep self-awareness arises—haunting, almost unbearable, and yet deeply cleansing. In three consecutive sessions, an interplay between inner contemplation and liberating letting go, between communal ritual and individual reflection emerges. This work is not a satirical look at cultural practices, but a respectful attempt to reinterpret the universal quest for purification and self-knowledge. With a powerful combination of music, performance, installation, and light, the team invites you on a unique journey—inside for catharsis, outside for reflection.
Tickets are CHF 25 for adults and CHF 15 for students.
