The Interfinity Festival offers a fascinating mix of high-caliber international and local artists in innovative and genre-crossing concerts. Over the past few years, it has become an established part of Basel’s annual musical calendar. With a lot of dedication, the organizers draw from the huge well of music and present a surprising palette of musical styles where composers, ensembles, professors, and musicians meet in the infinity of the musical universe. From Baroque, Classic, and Romanticism to contemporary music they are exploring with great curiosity the endless worlds of sound.
The latest arrangements by renowned pianist and composer Jean-Paul Brodbeck (“The Chopin Project”) open up a fascinating world of sound with the "Brahms Project," in which the timeless melodies of Johannes Brahms shine anew in fresh jazz sounds. By taking up the classical-romantic harmonies, Brodbeck gives the familiar works a completely new, lively expressiveness. The "folk tone" valued by Brahms comes to life again in this interpretation—from the rhythmically gripping Hungarian dances to the deeply moving piano pieces of his late creative phase. Guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel brings additional emotional depth with his expansive melodic arches and his intense playing, while Brodbeck's precise orchestrations in interaction with the groovy rhythm duo Lukas Traxel–Jorge Rossy create a powerful, earthy atmosphere. The improvisations fit seamlessly into this framework and at the same time offer space for musical development. As a special highlight, the famous lullaby by Brahms rounds off the program and elevates this extraordinary repertoire to a harmonious masterpiece. After the concert, the Perron restaurant invites you to dinner to round off the evening in a relaxed atmosphere.
Tickets are CHF 25 for adults and CHF 15 for students, or CHF 89/CHF 83 for the concert with dinner (three-course menu).
