Interfinity Festival — Surviving Superbugs: A Dance to Resist

The Interfinity Festival offers a fascinating mix of high-caliber international and local artists in innovative and genre-crossing concerts. Over the past few years, it has become an established part of Basel’s annual musical calendar. With a lot of dedication, the organizers draw from the huge well of music and present a surprising palette of musical styles where composers, ensembles, professors, and musicians meet in the infinity of the musical universe. From Baroque, Classic, and Romanticism to contemporary music they are exploring with great curiosity the endless worlds of sound.
After quantum physics and artificial intelligence, Interfinity this year addresses the topic of antibiotic resistance and "superbugs" in collaboration with the NCCR AntiResist based at the Biozentrum Basel—in the form of an interdisciplinary dance performance. In this impressive symbiosis of science, choreography, music, and visual arts, moderator Dr. Henry Legg captivatingly conveys the dangers of the "creeping pandemic," while the latest methods and innovative approaches of research and the pharmaceutical industry are brought to life in a fascinating way. Words and dance serve to explain how conventional antibiotics work and how bacteria develop resistance to them. You will also learn more about the historical and socio-political background of their research and development. The internationally acclaimed choreographer Giuseppe Spota and his dance ensemble MiR, the award-winning composer Yair Klartag, and the visual artist Michele Innocente take you on a haunting and poetic journey into the human body—down to the micro level, where the fight against antibiotic resistance rages.
Following the performance, an apéro (included in the ticket price) invites you to talk to scientists and experts. This offers you the opportunity to ask questions in an informal atmosphere and to exchange ideas with research luminaries about one of the most pressing issues in society and modern medicine. The verbal presentation will be in German.
The event will open with a speech by government councilor Kaspar Sutter.
Tickets are CHF 40 for adults and CHF 20 for students.
